ISN’T IT FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU SPEND HUNDREDS
(or even thousands) on a trendy new dress or suit, only to find that it
is completely obsolete by the next season? Hemlines will come and
go, but you can dress up or dress down a classic outfit with new accessories.

DONA L D J. PLINER
“Donald wants it to be like a home,” says Karen Ohringer, manager
of Donald J. Pliner’s new store on North Camden Drive in
Beverly Hills. And, in fact, when I walked into the store that’s exactly
what it felt like. The design shows many personal touches — the
store is decorated in Pliner’s signature style — complete with
wooden pigs from San Antonio, antlers from Santa Fe, colorful
Southwesternstyle rugs, and comfy red couches. The feeling is
warm, comfortable, and fashionable, just like Pliner’s
line of fall shoes and handbags.
Though Pliner is known for his boots for both
men and women, some of my favorites from the
fall collection for men were the Sport
Travel line, made with a patented aircushioned
sole and orthotics
for added comfort, and the England, a funky but comfortable
shoe worn by some of the top
athletes (tennis player Nicolas Kiefer
loves them).
For women, the most fashionable of
the fall collection is Pliner’s line of metallic brushed leather boots,
heels, and matching handbags made exclusively for the Beverly Hills
store. All of the shoes are made with a special bendable sole and an
elastic strap at the toe so the shoe will stretch to your foot. I tried a
pair of metallic brushed leather stiletto mules, which are normally
extremely uncomfortable, and they literally felt like slippers. Even
better, after I wore them for eight hours, they still felt as cozy.
“Pliner wants to deliver the most fashion, and the most comfort
for the best price,” said Eric Goodman, Pliner’s West Coast marketing
director. Donald J. Pliner’s fall accessories accomplish his goal.
Donald J. Pliner is located at 341 North Camden Drive in
Beverly Hills. www.donaldjpliner.com.
FRENCH SOLE
Speaking of shoes as comfortable as slippers, remember those
comfy ballet slippers you wanted to keep forever as a child, years
after ballet classes ended? Londonbased designer Lucy Choi has
created a line of colorful and sweet ballet pumps, perfect to wear
with miniskirts this fall. Better yet, her store, French Sole, is coming
to Santa Monica this fall.
Choi’s ballet pumps can be found at French Sole at 1331
Montana Avenue in Santa Monica after the first of October.
OTHER FALL
MUSTHAVES:
Leather Hobo bag.
From the Jimmy Choo
premiere handbag collection,
one of the hottest
bags of the season is the
Tulita Flap Hobo in
soft pink leather. To
complement that bag, a
girl should have a pair of
pink kid slingbacks with deco seam detail.
Available at Jimmy Choo Beverly Hills. www.jimmychoo.com
Ankle boots. Especially splurgeworthy are Donald J. Pliner’s
Oet Boot in dark brown leather with shearling overlay ($330) and
Jimmy Choo’s gorgeous inkblue patent leather ankle boots ($885).
Charm Bracelet. This is the musthave jewelry item for fall.
This is a great gift idea (men, pay attention!) because charms can
be personalized. Some of the most beautiful are vintage charm
bracelets from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, like Rita Watnick’s unique
collection of charm bracelets in 14 and 18karat gold. Available at
Lily et Cie. .
